Someone or Something
- What is it you want?
- What is it you need?
- What are you seeking today? and Why?
In most every conversation I hear an underlying statement, “I am seeking…”
“I’m looking for a …”
- computer geek,
- a fresh start,
- a job,
- a vacation,
- a good nights sleep,
- a new home,
- a new look,
But my heart hears something deep, echoing beyond their words, “I am desperate for …”
Sometimes frazzled and stressed, other times styled and accessorized to perfection; uptight and busy, maybe sloppy and worn-down, nagging and controlling, their eyes, posture, tone, and appearance all say, “I am seeking.”
Seeking and Finding Something Deeper
The first things that come to mind are usually urgent needs or superficial desires, but somewhere in the process of naming and listing, our abstract longings begin to flesh out on paper a map that can lead us to the real Treasure we are ultimately seeking.
So take a minute, or better yet, take a day.
Find a quiet place and do a little soul searching.
Make a couple lists:
- Physical/material things I need/want
- People/relationships I need/want
- Abstract things I need/want
Then ask yourself: Why? What deeper need/desire would those things/people meet?
Though you may not know it now, everything you need, everything your heart is longing for, everything is found in Christ.
” … do not be anxious about your life… Observe how the lilies of the field grow; they do not toil nor do they spin… if God so clothes the grass of the field… will He not much more clothe you? …Do not worry then,… but seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you… “ Mt. 6
May you find everything your soul is seeking
