Are you craving a little beauty and serenity in your life?
Begin this challenge by listening to this song:
Add to the Beauty – Sara Groves “We come with purposes written on our hearts, written on our souls… I want to add to the beauty to tell a better story…”
Your life in this season may look very different from your ideal of beauty, grace, and peace, but your life is beautiful, grace-filled, and potentially peaceful none-the-less.
So, don’t think of running away from reality or saying I’d relax and enjoy it “if-only…”, take another look… You don’t have to go far to find beauty. And, the presence of God is everywhere. His is omnipresent, and His Holy Spirit is in you!
So don’t wait until April; choose to add to the beauty right where you are. God created you in His image. He is the great Creator that made you creative! Look around you and regardless how dark, void, or chaotic the space seems, ask the LORD to inspire you showing you practically how you can bring order, beauty, and His peace to your world.
Here’s the Challenge
My daughter and I have so enjoyed the S.O.S. (Save Our Sanity) post based on the Ship Shape Challenge from last year, that I want to begin posting songs from this year’s soundtrack with a similar challenge. This challenge will grow room-by-room and song-by-song; so keep checking back.
After you BRIEFLY “tidy” a room for the length of the song (usually about 5 minutes), STOP cleaning and PRAY!!!! Pray for the people/events/activities that use that space in your home. — Then if you want to play the song again, go head, but when the song ends, STOP cleaning and PRAY again.
You can choose just one room (which will take 3 – 5 minutes), or you can spend less than an hour going room-by-room and give your whole house a quick once over. (You could do a couple songs in the morning and then a few more in the afternoon to spruce things up before your husband comes home or recruit your kiddos for a brief pick-up before or after dinner.) You could even concentrate on just one room each month; only spending a few minutes each day doing the most obvious things that need to be set in order.
This isn’t meant to be a long cleaning, just an easy challenge to “bring beauty and a bit of order” to your world while making you more familiar with songs you’ll hear on our trip; so don’t knock yourself out making this a guilt trip or a burden. Just have fun blessing yourself, home, and family!
- “the holy of holies” of the home, your bedroom
Glorious Unfolding – Steven Curtis Chapman “Just you wait and see and you will be amazed. You’ve just got to believe the story is so far from over; so hold on to every promise God has made to us…”
- “the spa”, your bathroom
- “the heart of the home” – the kitchen
- “the gate-way” (to the world and to the home) – the front porch, entry/hall way
- “the abundant-living space” (the gathering place for fun and fellowship) – living/family room
Write Your Story – Francesca Battistelli “Author of my hope… let me be Your work of art. Won’t You write Your story on my heart… I want my history to be Your legacy… I’m an empty page. I’m an open book.”
- “the celebration hall” (place of feasting!) – dining room
This is the Time – SuperChick “This is the story of your life… What’s the next scene have for you to do?… live the story you would write for you… walk towards the light and don’t stop till you live your life like someone died for you.”
- “the wash-room” (old and dirty transformed, clean and new) – laundry room
This is the Story of Your Life – Matthew West “Is this the end? Or only the beginning? This is the story of your life. You decided how the rest is gonna read. This is you chance between the lines to redefine what kind of legacy you leave. This is the story of your life, and it’s a story work telling.
- “your cozy corner” (quite time place, your space) – create that place… then sit back, light a candle, sip a cup of tea, and enjoy these slower worship songs…
Alive – Natalie Grant (from the CD “The Story”) “What kind of Love is writing my story till the end with Mercy’s pen? Only You.”
The Now and the Not Yet – Amy Grant “No longer what we were before, but not all that we will be… When He appears, our view will clear, and we’ll be changed by His glory, wrapped up in His glory.”

Family – We are All Going Home – Amy Grant “Where have you come from? Where are you going? Can you tell me what brought you here now?”
Generations – Sara Groves “Remind me of this with every decision: generations will reap what I sow. I can pass on a curse or a blessing to those I will never know.”
